South Bruce Peninsula Regular Council — Saturday, September 6, 2026
Road allowance sale — Council moved to formally close and declare surplus a portion of the original road allowance fronting 843 Enville Road, where an existing building is already situated on the allowance. No public comments were received at the public meeting held on the matter. Council authorized the Mayor and Clerk to execute a purchase agreement with David Morton for the parcel at $4,600 plus HST, with advertising and survey costs also applicable. Conveyance documents will return to a future meeting for signing.
By-laws passed — Council gave first, second, and third readings to several by-laws, including By-law 507-2026, a zoning amendment (L22004) for the municipality. By-laws 54, 122, and 5/266 were also passed; some numbering was partially inaudible in the record.
Medical clinic update — CAO Bell reported that preliminary design review for the new doctors’ medical centre is nearly complete, with a full council update expected by end of September or early October. The facility will include a pharmacy and auxiliary medical services. Vacant space within the building is being assessed for short- or long-term tenancy.
Saugeen territorial claim clarified — The CAO emphasized that remaining proceedings in the Saugeen territorial claim are in the indemnification phase only and do not represent a dispute between the municipality and Saugeen First Nation. A judge confirmed the federal and provincial Crown failed significantly; the First Nation and South Bruce Peninsula will jointly seek indemnification from the Crown.
Cellular and internet coverage — Council reviewed ongoing cellular gap issues involving Rogers, Bell, and others. SharedTower installations previously approved for Bluewater Park (near the bandshell and marina) are proceeding, with a potential additional mast near the town centre park under study. Decorative towers capable of carrying internet service are being explored as a lower-risk option given evolving technology.
Community grant report accepted — Council received the final report from the Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation confirming 2026 Community Grant Program funds were used for equipment purchase and installation.
Public Works and tourism — Line 5 road work commenced with a joint communications plan underway with Grey and Bruce Counties. Vandalism repairs at Bluewater Park were completed through community contributions at no municipal cost. A Destination Ontario site visit to Sauble Beach will generate future online promotion; the Welcome Centre closes following the Labour Day weekend.
