Saugeen Shores Council Meeting - Planning — Monday, August 24, 2026 @ 6:30 PM

What to Watch

Chantry Crossing development (SKG Holdings): Council is set to approve a local Official Plan amendment and zoning by-law change, and to support in principle a draft plan of subdivision for the Chantry Crossing project — a major housing decision, subject to outstanding conditions on servicing, stormwater, hydrogeology, and geotechnical requirements.

Highway 21 speed limit: A motion asks Council to formally request the province reduce the posted speed limit between Port Elgin (Concession 10) and Southampton (South Street) from 80 km/h to 60 km/h, citing safety conflicts between vehicle traffic and Saugeen Rail Trail users at multiple access points.

Fenton Park naming: Council will consider naming the new Bluewater Lands Neighbourhood Park “Fenton Park” in honour of Ray Fenton, whose company dedicated the parkland through the original subdivision plan. (Notable: first formal naming under the Public Facilities Naming Policy for this site.)

SOUTH sign relocation: A motion directs staff and the Southampton BIA to identify an alternate location for the SOUTH sign, which Council says conflicts with the goals of the High Street reconstruction project.

Bell tower — 1071 Goderich Street: Council is asked to sign off on a 33-metre monopole cell tower on Goderich Street in Port Elgin following Bell Mobility’s public consultation.

Conservation authority governance: Council will consider sending formal comments to the province on proposed governance regulations for regional conservation authorities, with a copy to SVCA and Bruce County.
